Tell us a little about yourself!

I work in the Talent and Culture team (some might say HR) for an affiliate marketing company, I am a mother to two kids and married to my best friend who gets me and infuriates me at the same time. I juggle multiple, chaotic hats in a day and it is challenging but I cherish it!

How would you describe your personal style to be?

Batik used to be associated with the elderly and weddings but YeoMaMa Batik has elevated batik to be more wearable! You see batik being worn with shorts and skirts and the prints are more vibrant compared to years ago. My first piece from YeoMaMa Batik, I brought it to New York for a work event and it was such a hit!

The fact that it was also super comfortable was such a win too.I wear t-shirts and shorts or exercise attire on a daily basis and dressing up is a rarity for me, because I am a no-frills type of person. But I love colours and am always open to experimenting and YeoMama Batik resonates with me because you dare to experiment too.

How did it feel being part of our social shoot as a family?

Oh, it was so much fun and such a joy (coughs, except for the part when I had to "dance" and I got so stressed!) and we loved it! Being able to try on multiple clothes, take photos together as a family and have fun with it was priceless and I am so thankful for the opportunity!

How would you describe your family’s personality in three words?

Foodies, travellers and jokers. We always emphasize to the kids, "try a new food at least once and if you don't like it, no biggie but at least you tried it once". And that applies to travelling and life as well. We want the kids to be open to experiences, adventures and yet not take everything so seriously. We want them to be able to laugh at themselves, to lean on each other and to be brave.

What is a typical weekend like in your household?

I work from home and Azri works shifts, and that means our weekends are never exactly typical.

We try to squeeze in an exercise session (or two) as part of our couple time, then we would travel across Singapore for food, but the most important thing during weekends that stand out are naps. I need my naps and I make it a point that everybody naps on weekends. :)

And because my family are foodies, weekends are the best time for me to bake and cook for them and even squeeze in some experiments for them (and my friends) to savour!

Share with us what your parenting style looks like in practice.

Azri and I are absolutely on one page in raising our children to not be a**holes, and we want them to be respectful and kind human beings.

If that means we have to convey the hard truth and sometimes be the enemy while parenting them, then we will do it. But of course, we will always balance it out with plenty of snuggles, hugs and open communication!

That is where we TRY to be better parents and communicate more versus the old school parenting way of "whack and let you cry it out in one corner".

Can you share one of the funniest or most memorable moments you’ve had with your children?

Travelling is always a true test of relationships and it is no different for our family!

We travel everywhere as a family unit and I love that no matter where we go, we are open to adventures and new experiences. So even if we screw up and something bad happens, we are showing the kids that we should handle it together and laugh about it.

If your family’s story were a batik print, what would it look like and why?

It would be one that is colourful yet complements each other, just like life and our family!
