Sustainability
Behind Threads

From preserving and finding creative ways to use surplus fabrics to prioritising ongoing comfort for our seamstresses, continuously bettering our sustainability efforts is in every stitch of our creations.

To us, this means being mindful of resources and people, and making conscious choices to leave a positive impact on our community. This includes ensuring minimal waste in our practice, maintaining transparency with our customers, and fostering ethical, empowering and equitable work conditions for our artisans, seamstresses, and staff.

Our Artisans' Craft

We carefully handpick the skilled artisans behind each exquisite batik fabric. Bypassing middlemen, we personally visit them in their studios to observe their craft and speak with them – What is their process? What is the inspiration behind their art? Where does their patience for this demanding art spring from?

When we meet one whose passion and quality resonate with us, we snag them (and their fabrics). Before the tailoring process even begins, we treasure the precision that guides ink onto cloth by hand, transforming plain fabrics into heartfelt tales of artistry and individuality.

Our team of talented seamstresses then turns these into unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. From the artisans to our seamstresses to the wearer donning our pieces, we print and weave each person’s story from beginning to end – an authentic expression of craft and self to be cherished and celebrated.

A Glimpse Into Our Workshop

Discover the hands that weave magic into all YeoMama Batik pieces - put together by our skilled seamstresses from various corners of Indonesia.

Whether it's a cosy, family-owned business or a larger, bustling workshop, our seamstresses work their magic in comfortable surroundings.

Hygienic, spacious, and airy conditions are a must, ensuring their comfort and well-being, while competitive salaries and benefits empower them to weave wonders with each piece within bright, well-ventilated spaces.

Crafted by hand with heart – not haste.

Upcycling Offcuts

We believe in breathing new life into batik offcuts as much as possible to minimise waste and our carbon footprint. It's a journey of creativity and consciousness as we transform these remnants into beautiful, functional products like tank tops, kids' shirts, tote bags, pocket squares, bucket hats, obi belts, dog bandanas and journals – the possibilities are endless.

Not gonna lie – the thrill of discovering creative ways to reimagine leftover materials is probably part of our motivation, too!
