Please give us a short intro about yourself!

Hi everyone! I’m Yu Shan, YeoBro’s wife — you might’ve seen me pop up now and then on YMM IG Live or in some reels.

I work as a healthcare administrator, and in my free time, I love baking, especially when the tamjiak YeoBro hints (not so subtly) that he’s craving something sweet. It brings me joy to create bakes that not only looks good but also makes people happy. Nothing beats seeing loved ones enjoy something you made from scratch!

Could you share a little about your journey into motherhood?

We found out that I was pregnant on my birthday last year and it was hands down the best birthday present ever.

We just stared at the test in disbelief for a while… it felt so surreal knowing our lives were about to completely change. Thankfully, my pregnancy was a pretty smooth one and honestly, I already kind of miss waddling around with my bump and feeling her tiny hiccups and kicks.

The whole journey was filled with so many emotions — excitement, nerves, gratitude — and it’s been such a meaningful chapter for both me and my family.

How has life changed since Jovie came into the picture?

Life has shifted completely in the most beautiful and humbling way. It has been a steep learning curve, juggling everything from understanding her cries to figuring out breastfeeding and sleep routines.

Some days feel like a blur, but somehow we eventually find our rhythm. I have also discovered that I can somehow function on very little sleep and my priorities have changed - a quiet moment with her smile is worth more than anything else.

What has been the most rewarding and challenging part of being a mum?

The most rewarding part has been watching Jovie grow and hit her little milestones — her first smile, her first laugh — and realising that I get to be her safe space in this big, unfamiliar world. Each of those moments fills my heart with a kind of love I never knew I was capable of. There are times I wish I could freeze time, just to soak it all in a little longer.

The most challenging part has been dealing with self-doubt, wondering if I’m doing enough, or doing the right things for her. On top of that, learning how to navigate the many well-meaning opinions from others who love her too.

I constantly remind myself that what matters most is showing up with love, doing my best and being fully present. That in itself, is enough.

Has your personal style evolved since becoming a mother? How?

Definitely, comfort has become the top priority. I find myself reaching for easy, breathable pieces that I can move freely in. As I’m breastfeeding, wrap tops and nursing-friendly dresses have become my go-tos — practical, yet still stylish. The colours are also instant mood lifter!

On the sleep-deprived days, wearing YeoMama Batik instantly gives me that little boost and helps me feel a bit more like myself again.

How has motherhood changed your perspective on self-love and confidence?

Motherhood has really softened the way I speak to myself. I used to be my own biggest critic, but now I see how important it is to show myself the same grace and kindness I would want Jovie to grow up with.

There is something incredibly grounding about knowing your body carried and nurtured a whole human, it makes you appreciate your own strength in a new way. I am learning that confidence is not about having it all together — it’s about showing up as you are, messy and all.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to other young mums, or soon-to-be mums?

You are doing better than you think you are! We are all figuring things out as it goes, so trust your instincts, ask for help when you need it, accept the help without mom-guilt. Our baby does not need us to be perfect, they just need us.
